Adoption Services

Brighton and Hove are committed to providing support and advice to anyone affected by adoption.

This includes

For Birth relatives

- If you are a Brighton and Hove resident who is the relative of a child who was adopted in the past.
- If you are the relative of a child for whom this Local Authority is making a plan for adoption.

We can offer:

  • Counselling and advice in relation to adoption issues.
  • Free access to Post Adoption Centre Helpline and monthly surgeries in Brighton.
  • Support, advice and mediation in relation to maintaining contact with a child who has been adopted.
  • Assistance and advice for those seeking contact with an adult relative who has been adopted.

For Adopted adults:

- If you are over 18, were adopted and are resident in Brighton and Hove.

We can offer:

  • Counselling and advice on adoption issues.
  • Counselling to those seeking information about their origins through access to their birth records.
  • Support and advice to adopted people who are seeking or have made contact with their birth relatives.
  • This will include facilitating a meeting if appropriate. Free access to the Post Adoption Centre Helpline, local surgeries and groups.
